Africa Latina Mix
by Boima Tucker
For our final chapter of the Dutty Artz February Mixtape Mondays (check previous mixes by DJ /rupture & Sonido Martines, DJ Ushka, and DJ Ripley), my brother Geko Jones and I decided to chime in with a collaborative submission. For several years, Geko and I have been following and rearranging the lines that connect Africa and Latin America through our musical explorations. This mix, which touches on Champeta, Semba, Ndombolo, Morna, House, Kuduro, and neo-Highlife, is our latest take on the […]

A Rainy Sunday Morning
by Boima Tucker
I had a real fun time as a guest on my DJ partner and roommate Lamin Fofana‘s Sunday morning radio show this past weekend. We laughed the whole way through the rainy morning, and when Lamin would stop suddenly and announce, “on a serious note, there is flash flooding in…” I’d be rolling on the floor. I can’t switch gears that fast. But I mostly wanted to share this because I was able to play a lot of music that […]

Africa is a Landmass

Goodbye for Now, Dakar
by Boima Tucker
Not even 10 hours out of Dakar and I’m already missing it. What a great city. I’ll definitely be back soon, and hopefully have a better hold on my French language skills. Dakar in a lot of ways (right now at least) is the African city of my dreams. It’s not my ancestral homeland, but it feels like home to someone in between worlds like myself. A diverse cosmopolitan population, but a strong sense of cultural pride and deep traditional […]

Stockholm to London
by Boima Tucker
Travelling from an emerging global capital to the OG one, I Stopped over in London for a couple days to meet up with Vamanos. Stockholm was a great summer city, sunlight for 21 hours a day, good parties, beautiful people. I love cities that have real summers and real winters. People suffer through the cold to go mad in the heat! The differences between Stockholm and London at least on the surface are pretty evident. It’s interesting for me to […]
