It’s been five years in the making, but the Kondi Band has finally arrived! With a full length album due out on Strut later this year, the Belle Wahalla EP is the first glimpse at the collaboration between Sorie Kondi and myself. The is will also the first major album project out of the INTL BLK studio/production platform. The EP (which will be release on vinyl in the coming weeks) features two original tracks and remixes by Hagan, Boddhi Satva, and Aramac. Cover […]
Dutty Artz’ lastest features a remix by myself featuring Afro-Mexican rapper Bocafloja. I took Cocotaxi’s original digital Andean-cumbia influenced track, and injected a little bit of African flavor by tapping into the Afro-Bolivian Saya tradition from the Yungas communities outside of La Paz. Check it out below.
I had a lot of fun playing with the rhythms that underlie the beautiful song “New Name” by Ahmed “Sinkane” Gallab. I met Ahmed a few years ago when we took a trip together to Coachella to DJ one of the side parties in Palm Springs. I have a remix on Brooklyn Afrobeat band Underground System’s new EP. The song is called Bella Ciao and I twisted it into a driving techno-ish tune with a Carioca influenced under-layer…it was also featured on OkayAfrica earlier this week… the EP drops August 5th on Ropeadope records, listen to it here: They also did this pretty cool trailer for the EP featuring my remix…
Out on Dutty Artz this past week, my remix of Old Money’s ‘Mothership’ is below. On the official release it sits along side DJ Spoko’s own take of the title track. Lamin Fofana also turned in a great one! Download my remix for free for a limited time on my Soundcloud page. Read more about Old Money and their Afro-futurist philosophy here.
I just uploaded a remix I did last year with Brooklyn-Sierra Leonean brother Giku to Soundcloud. I forgot to mention the release when it dropped late 2013… I think I was just waiting for someone else to upload it first, ha! It’s available for download or as a 7″ on Stronghold Sound’s bandcamp page.
African in New York is here! And I’m also proud to present my first every music video, the NY edition of “Without Money No Family.” I shot and edited it myself, taking some footage from the original clip, I’m happy to see the final result but anxious to hear what people think about it. Buy African in New York as a partial album on iTunes, and at a few other digital retailers. The full album will be a physical version with […]
