Musical Violence – Gangsta Rap and Politics in Sierra Leone

I spent the good part of a year prepping my master’s thesis for New School’s International AffaIrs program (advised by Wayne Marshall and Sean Jacobs). Even after I earned my degree the work didn’t stop. I sent the paper to Mats Utas, a great researcher who I referenced heavily in the paper, who responded with thoughts to publish it with the Nordic Africa Institute. So this past November I went to Sweden, polished up the paper, and this week it is finally available as a free download!

I won’t write too much more about the topic since the paper itself is pretty long (and honestly I’ve done a lot to sum it up already!), but I do hope you get a chance to read it. Feel free to send me feedback!
