I’ve been pretty World Cup obsessed lately, but before that all started The Fader asked me to do a mix for their Pitch Perfect series, 6 DJ mixes and 10 short documentaries focused on Africa’s hosting of the 2010 World Cup.  I was responsible for the North America mix, and was able to include some of my friends in a fully licensed (and paid) mix.

“Hello everybody, reporting live from somewhere!”

I’d like to share the very exciting for me news that my first EP of original material is up and available for purchase at iTunes, Amazon, or Boomkat online retailers.

I’d love the support if you feel like purchasing the record.  I’ve been working really hard on producing music for the past few months (there’s been a lack of posting both here and at Ghetto Bassquake.)  A slew of releases and official remix projects that I am all very proud of will be following soon!

I am also very excited about the news that I will be moving to New York in the fall to attend graduate school at The New School, and will also try and continue this music thing in a new pond.  I’ve had a great time in the Bay Area, and it may not be bye forever, but for now, new opportunities await.

In the meantime, before all these wonderful things happen (including you buying my music) you can tide yourself over with this promo mix I did to celebrate the release of the EP:

…at least from what I remember was Recess and Birthdays.  This Wednesday, you can partake in both with me at Somar Bar in Oakland.  I’ll be playing a fun set of party tunes, most likely centered on music I love from the Caribbean axis, alongside DJ Soul Profess from Oakland.

There’s a great vibe going on in Oakland these days.  I personally love being able to literally go down the street after a gig to sleep in my bed.  No tolls, no bridges, no closed train stations!  I had a blast on Saturday at the People party, and I’m excited to keep it all going as they say.  So, come say hi for my (post) birthday celebration (the real date is tomorrow, the 2nd) and if you haven’t been able to yet, check out what is really becoming (perhaps) an Oakland renaissance.

Tomorrow night I’m playing at my favorite East Bay monthly party, The People Party.  It’s put on by my friend’s DJ Cecil and Be Brown and their partners Cali and Heylove.  Also featured will be Santa Cruz’s DJ Eko, who I’ve been meaning to see play for awhile now, but have not been able to catch up with her, as she travels maybe more than I do.

The People Party is known around (the) Town as the best place to hear some great soulful house and experimental Black Music, and is really the heart of the East Bay’s underground party scene (in my opinion.)  Tomorrow’s party will be at The New Parish in Oakland.  I’m going to bring some fire because this is definitely the party to show out for.  Hope to see you there!

I’ve not been posting a lot here lately, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been on the music exploration grind.  I’m still posting at Ghetto Bassquake, but I wanted to let it be known that I’ve been blogging over at the New York/New Jersey radio station, WFMU’s Beware of the Blog.

So I’m late on this one because I’m just coming back from the event, but you can still catch the amazing installation of the Global Lives Project this weekend at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.  I just DJ’d the opening party with Kid Kameleon and Tinker, and it was such an amazing set up to see all the videos hanging from the ceiling that I have to encourage everyone to see it.  It was great watching the videos throughout the night, seeing what each subject is up to on their respective days.

If you’re not in the Bay Area, keep a look out, because the installation will be traveling.

I had a blast on New Years, playing in front of this beautiful Mosque in Abu Dhabi.  Getting to play an international mix of music like UK Funky, Coupe Decale, Bhangra, Crunk, Soca, Cumbia, Baltimore/Philly Club, Rai, and Egyptian Pop, far from my home base, and receive a rowdy dancing response from a diverse international crowd has made me optimistic for 2010 and beyond.  While I had to still fight off demands for 80′s music from a group of drunk Scottish people (some in kilts) as well as their orders to shut off the music at midnight so they could sing loudly a proper Scottish New Year’s tune, I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse crowd that came to party in the New Year.

I’m headed back to the states on Monday, to pop in to Beat Research in Boston.  Come catch me in my jet lag haze, I’ll definitely be sharing some East African treats from my trip to Nairobi.

On return to San Francisco, I’ll be back home at Baobab Village Friday night January 8th to play along side my Dutty Artz brother Taliesen, the Crooked Clef from Seattle, and SF’s very own Slayer’s Club Crew.  Check the flyer:
